The floors of medieval cathedrals, abbeys and castles in France and England were paved with earthenware two-coloured tiles which were both decorative and practical. Inspired by these flamboyant floors Andrew McGarva has created a range of tiles for both the restoration of historic buildings and paving new floors. Based on the medieval designs, the tiles are a mix of original motifs, and copies or reinterpretations of old designs. Tiles have been made on this site, La Tuilerie (the tileworks) for hundreds of years, the current buildings date from the mid-18th century. Andrew McGarva, potter and tile-maker since 1979, has worked here since 1990. The original tile-kiln has been converted into the shop. Open from 2pm to 7pm daily in July and August, otherwise by appointment. For further information go to the details page. To contact us, please go to the contact page.
